Pablo Untroib at his workshopPablo E. Untroib (PEU) hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Buenos Aires is Argentina’s big, cosmopolitan capital city. Its center is the Plaza de Mayo, lined with stately 19th-century buildings. Untroib’s unconvnetinoal workshop is in the heart of the busy financial sector – an office on a fifth floor. Before Untroib became a knifemaker, this was his mechanical engineering office. When, in 2001, the country went into recession and work slowed down, Pablo kept his office and began a new career of knifemaking. Looking beyond the tools and homemade machines sprawled over the desks, Untroib’s office begins to betray its former life. What was once filled with ring binders and old account archives, is now a knifemaker’s paradise.
From a young age, Untroib always liked making things and creating machines that make things - he fashioned many of the tools and machines in his workshop - heat treat ovens, saws, sanders and more. Untroib went to university at Universidad CAECE (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and specialized in mechanical and industrial engineering. Today, he continues to use his knowledge found in his previous career to design and create his own knives. While he mostly focuses on creating kitchen knives and cutlery, he also makes tactical and hunting knives.
Despite his hobby becoming a routine with its own workflows, from designing on the computer to cutting and tempering the steel and making the handle, he still makes knives to relax. A break for him is not going on a walk but picking up a piece of steel and making a knife.
Since Argentina has a strong tradition of ornamental metalwork, Untroib goes for modern design and functional knives for cooking. He enjoys seeing photos of his knives being used every day for cooking.
His love and passion shows in his finished knives. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind cooking knife, Urtroib’s culinary masterpieces are the way to go.
