Welcome, Guest
Dale Miller has been making kitchen knives since 2015 after many years of working in wood, building musical instruments, speakers, hand planes, and other pieces. He uses knives in the kitchen, regularly making charcuterie and tsukemono (Japanese pickles) and uses this experience to inform his knife design and execution. His mission is to make functional, beautiful knives out of the best available materials that are to be used every day in the kitchen. Miller believes that attention to detail and personally executing all steps in the process are keys to exceptional knives. He collects exhibition-grade renewable woods for handles and especially enjoys working with curly koa, ebony, fiddleback myrtle, Honduras rosewood, cocobolo, and highly figured madrone from his firewood pile.
In his Washington studio, he has complemented his collection of woodworking tools with variable speed grinders, knife vises, a gas forge, anvil, arc welder, vacuum stabilization chamber, and many hand tools.
Dale has a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Washington, and is a consultant and systems engineer for advanced 3-D airborne sensors.
