Description: Mastersmith Jay Hendrickson's knives have always inspired me. There is a gentlemanly elegance to his work that matches his personality. These days, Jay makes less knives than he used to. I was pleased when he let me know he had some work that he had just completed.
Silver vines are inlaid into presentation grade curly maple. The vines terminate in copper berries. The depth of the wood is evident, giving an heirloom quality to this exceptional Jay Hendrickson Drop Point Hunter. The contoured maple feels great in hand -- swelling to meet the palm. A guard and pommel are formed from crosscut Indian stag.
Jay began by forging the blade from 80CrV2 carbon steel. This steel provides tremendous strength and resilience. The appleseed grind is a hallmark of Jay's hand forged knives. Jay Hendrickson believes strongly in the hand forging process and it clearly shows in his work. By forging the blade to shape, Jay ensures optimal edge retention.
This knife is accompanied by a hand stitched pouch style leather sheath.
This is a gorgeous knife, perfect for serious use, though it could easily be the prize of most any collection.
