Description: This folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. It is among his master works to date. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005. His folders combine incredibly smooth action with a high level of fit and finish.
The sheepsfoot blade is made from stainless damascus forged by Damasteel in Sweden. The bold damascus pattern is nicely shown in the high blade grind and nearly hidden in the flats. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The scales are made from antique Westinghouse Micarta. This Micarta was developed in 1910 by Westinghouse Electric Corporation as an industrial thermo-set laminate for electrical insulation. This light toned Micarta was lost in a warehouse and only recently discovered. The top shows the beautiful yellowing with age that makes this Micarta so captivating.
Zirconium bolsters are hand-engraved by Belgium-born artist Julien Marchal. Marchal combined a floral scrollwork with a running wheat pattern. Julien studied engraving and gun making at Léon Mignon Liège in Belgium prior to emigrating to South Africa. The bolsters are perfectly fit to the antique Micarta scales. Titanium liners have been hand filed into a vine pattern and anodized blue. The liners surround a matching Westinghouse Micarta backbar. The 3D machined titanium pocket clip with ceramic retention ball is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
