Description: A war hammer is a late medieval weapon of war intended for close combat action. It is a formidable weapon. War hammers were developed as a consequence of the prevalence of surface-hardened armor during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The hardened steel armor made swords only deliver glancing blows, losing much of their impact. A war hammer could deliver the full force of a blow to the target.
This war hammer was hand forged by Black Dragon Forge, led by South African knifemaker Neels van den Berg. The head measures 7.2 inches from the tip of the spike to the end of the hammer. The forged head features a split hammer. The haft is formed from South African chakate preto wood (Guibourtia conjugata). Considered a precious wood in Africa, the dark brown wood is moderately lustrous with an interlocked grain and fine texture. This type of wood has been compared to African blackwood, but it is not quite as heavy. It is a great choice for a strong, durable haft.
Nice work throughout!
