Description: Des Horn makes knives that have an intrinsic harmony. High-tech materials in this knife are juxtaposed against some of the best that nature can offer.
The blade is stainless damascus forged by Damasteel in Sweden. The blade has been double tempered and cryogenically treated in liquid nitrogen. This style of heat treatment results in an incredibly long-lasting edge, and high resistance to chipping.
This ball release knife has handle scales of ancient mammoth ivory bark. The bark ivory combines caramel and rare green tones. Bolsters are pristine Gibeon meteorite. The Gibeon meteorite landed in Great Namaqualand, Namibia, Africa. It radio carbon dates to over 4 billion years ago. Gibeon fragments are spread over one of the largest strewn fields in the world, measuring 70 miles wide by 230 miles long and have a distinctive pattern known as the Widmanstatten pattern, which is one of the richest and most distinct patterns found in meteorites. The crystalline patterns can only form in the vacuum of space. The large metallic crystals require millions of years of cooling to form from a molten planetary core fragment. It has been estimated that it took about 1000 years for these molten pieces of planetary core to cool by just 1 degree Celsius! The indent and release balls are silicon nitride (Hrc 93!). Fileworked, anodized liners are Grade V titanium and surround the twist pattern Damasteel backbar.
Des' craftsmanship means that this unusual locking mechanism works smoothly and comfortably. The flipper opener is easy to use -- it is designed for easy single handed opening and closing rather than a modern 'flicking' flipper. The blade is perfectly centered and has smooth action.
A gentleman's style brown leather pocket slip pouch is included to protect the knife while carrying it.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
