Description: South African knifemaker André Thorburn creates an exceptional folder. This L36S Flipper is a spectacular EDC though it will feel comfortable in nearly any collection.
The blade is perfectly centered with silky smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet, ambidextrous flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
The blade is formed from N690 stainless steel, created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. By satin finishing the grinds and polishing the flats, Andre has emphasized his clean grind lines.
Silver strike carbon fiber handle scales are nicely domed and polished. Aluminum wires travel through the carbon strands in this variation on lightning strike carbon fiber. Jimping on the thumb ramp provides a comfortable, secure grip. The gently rounded handle feels sturdy and fills your hand perfectly. The textured, engraved, anodized zirconium bolsters provide a steadfast grip that is also very beautiful. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. It is highly resistant to corrosion and scuffing. Fileworked and anodized titanium liners surround a black G10 backspacer, keeping this knife light, yet strong. The 3D machined titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry. A ceramic ball bearing set at the end of the clip makes it particularly easy to use.
