Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kikuo Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. His father runs a small workshop in Seki, grinding blades for production knife makers. Kiku joined his father's business at 15 years old. Over the years, Kiku's skill at the grinder has become legendary. Whether you know it or not, you may already have a knife blade ground by him. He personally grinds knifes for the like of William Henry, Pro-tech, and Randall King.
This Kozuka is handmade and shows his Kikuo's skill at its best. It is a modern take on the kogatana - a small knife traditionally carried in the scabbard of the Katana. It is perfect for when an unobtrusive tool rules the day.
The blade is made from Kikuo’s personal favorite, OU-31 stain resistant tool steel and features his hamaguri-ba (convex) grind and a false edge along the top. It is completed with Kikuo's non-reflective disruptive acid finish. The spine is filed for a secure thumb purchase. The black canvas Micarta handle is carved and set on the substantial full tang.
Accompanied by hand fitted Kydex sheath with Tek-Lok belt clip. Exceptional work throughout!
