Description: Australian born knifemaker Glenn Waters spent much of his adult life in Japan. He creates some amazing works of art, and enjoys using exotic materials.
This unique folder combines a san mai ZDP-189 blade with a Timascus frame. The reverse tanto blade is formed from a ZDP-189 core sandwiched between ATS-34 stainless steel. ZDP-189 is a phenomenal steel, though unfortunately difficult to find. It is renowned for its amazing edge retention. The blade is textured on the flats and has a hole for one-handed opening. In addition, there is a single anodized titanium thumb stud, which also acts as a stop pin. Engraved next to the hole is the Japanese kanji for "Shinobi", which means ninja.
The left frame is Timascus (damascus forged from different grades of titanium rather than steel), milled and heat colored for a dramatic iridescent effect. The scale is engraved with a butterfly. The right frame is solid titanium. Portions of the scale have been heat colored with blues, purples, and golds, and resisted to show several butterflies traveling across the surface. Choosing titanium keeps the knife strong, light and fast. A Timascus pocket clip is heat colored to match the handle and mounted for tip-up carry.
A very unique and exceptional folder!
