Description: Eyes are immediately drawn to the handle of this beautiful piece. Black, teardrop shaped leaves have been surrounded by fine silver vines inlaid into the wood. The underlying background of the leaves is a gorgeous maple, with undulating curls. The depth of the wood is evident, giving an heirloom quality to this exceptional Jay Hendrickson hunter. A German silver guard complements the silver inlay, and is separated by a spacer of Indian stag. The curvature of the maple feels great in hand.
Mastersmith Jay Hendrickson began by forging the 1084 carbon steel blade to shape. The appleseed grind is a hallmark of Jay's hand forged knives. A clear differential heat treatment line travels along the blade, showing the transition between soft, supportive spine and the keen, hard edge steel. Jay Hendrickson believes strongly in the hand forging process and it clearly shows in his work. By forging the blade to shape, Jay ensures optimal edge retention.
All finishing and embellishments of both knives and sheaths are completed in Jay's shop. This knife is accompanied by a hand tooled, high quality brown leather pouch type sheath.
