Description: Eyes are immediately drawn to the handle of this beautiful piece. Red oak leaves have been carved into the wood, and then fine silver has been inlaid, forming the leaves' veins. The underlying background of the leaves has been textured and resembles tree bark. The top and bottom of the maple handle are smooth and show the striations and depth of the wood, giving an heirloom quality to this exceptional Jay Hendrickson hunter. A stainless steel guard and pommel complement the silver inlay. The knife feels great in hand.
Mastersmith Jay Hendrickson began by forging the 1084 carbon steel blade to shape. The appleseed grind is a hallmark of Jay's hand forged blades. A clear differential heat treatment line travels along the blade, showing the transition between soft, supportive spine and the keen, hard edge steel.
Jay Hendrickson believes in the hand forging process, and all finishing and embellishments of both knives and sheaths are completed in his shop. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind. This knife is accompanied by a very nicely detailed sheath. It is basswood lined, with a leather covering which sports a raised design of a stag in red -- matching the color of the carved leaves. The sheath has a German silver throat and fastener for a belt loop. A beautiful knife, suitable for display or use!
