Description: Jimmy Lile, a full-time knifemaker since 1970, was known as "Gentleman Lile" or "The Arkansas Knifemaker". Jimmy's Sly II knife was designed and made to meet the demand for his famous First Blood knives. The blade features Jimmy's Lile's mark (without the dot), signifying that the knife was made prior to 1991.
When Lile was initially given the specifications for the original First Blood, he was asked not to design it as a movie prop but as a survival tool, capable of performing a wide variety of tasks. This same attention to detail and design as a survival tool continue into the Sly II. Only 100 of the Sly II featured the twelve tooth design featured on this piece. The blade features eight double "split teeth" and four single -- which function well as a serrated knife or saw. The bead blasted finish cuts down on the blade's reflectiveness, another nod to Jimmy's "survival knife" intention.
The cord-wrapped, hollow stainless steel handle is waterproof, allowing the knife to be used as storage for matches. Additionally, the hollow handle allows the knife to be fitted to a pole to make a spear or gig. The green nylon cord wrap is featured on fewer than 100 of these knives, and could be used for snares or fishing. When accessing the hollow handle, the aluminum butt cap unscrews to reveal a compass.
The original Johnson sheath, complete with E-Z Sharpen diamond rod has been well cared for and is in excellent condition. The knife itself has been in a private collection and is flawless. If you like your tactical blades and are interested in owning a piece of cinematic history, this is the knife for you.
