Description: Michael Rader, who was honored as a Master Smith in June 2010 has a style all of his own. His work combines elegant woodworking with a tremendous heat treatment and attention to detail.
This clip point bowie was hand forged from 52100 carbon steel. 52100 is considered by many knifemakers and collectors to be among the best -- if not the best -- carbon steels for edge holding. A hand rubbed satin finish lends and heirloom quality.
The handle is formed from maple burl with box elder burl accents. The dark tones in the maple burl are nicely highlighted by the light toned box elder burl. Michael's superior woodworking is a hallmark of his style. The woods are meticulously combined in complex arches -- with the seams nearly beyond perception. A damascus guard separates the blade from the handle. Alternating black fiber and copper spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. Exceptional work throughout.
