Description: This unique puukko combines Nordic and Celtic influences to create a unique and dramatic knife. It was made by Mastersmith Jay Hendrickson back in 2001 and was kept in a private collection since it was made. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances, Jay could have made it yesterday. When we first sold this knife back in 2001, it was one of my favorite knives I had ever seen. It continues to be among those.
Mastersmith Jay Hendrickson began by forging the L6 carbon steel blade to shape. The appleseed grind is a hallmark of Jay's hand forged blades. A clear differential heat treatment line travels along the satin finished blade, showing the transition between soft, supportive spine and the keen, hard edge steel.
The handle is presentation grade ringed gidgee (Acacia cambagei). Gidgee is a member of the acacia family (same family as koa). It grows in arid regions of Australia resulting in dense, wood with a hardness similar to Arizona desert ironwood. The slow-growing gidgee may hang on for hundreds of years and produces one of Australia’s hardest and most durable timbers. Curly maple spacers are inlaid with fine silver Celtic knotwork. The handle is nicely sculpted to perfectly fit your hand, providing a sure, comfortable grip. This is a knife you won't want to put down.
The knife is accompanied by a Nordic-inspired single seamed leather and basswood sheath.
Exceptional work throughout from a true master at the height of his career!
