Description: Daniel Winkler became a fulltime knifemaker in 1988 and received accreditation as an American Bladesmith Society master bladesmith in 1993. He has spent more than three decades studying and perfecting the nuances and handmade knives. Winkler Knives is a custom manufacturing operation that represents the evolution of Mastersmith Daniel Winkler’s knifemaking expertise coupled with the needs and field experience of Tier 1 Special Operations Teams from around the world.
This tool was crafted in the Winkler Knives shop in Northwestern North Carolina by skilled Blue Ridge Mountain artisans. It was created to provide unfailing performance and to last a lifetime. The Winkler Knives touch mark represents their unwavering commitment to producing the highest quality knives, axes, and breaching tools available.
The WK Shadow Strike is uniquely different from other Winkler Knives models. The design was the vision of best-selling author Jason Kasper, brought to life by Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler. Kasper, a retired Special Forces Captain, became one of Daniel’s favorite novelists. Daniel invited Jason to visit Winkler Knives and, after doing so, Kasper wrote an “imaginary” custom Winkler blade into his next novel Beast Three Six, the sixth book in his Shadow Strike Series. Worthy, a primary character in the book series, says of the knife “look at that false edge - this thing handles like a dream.” He also noted that the knife was “slim enough to fit behind a mag pouch, much less within the waistband of his armored plate carrier.”
After reading about this non-existent Winkler knife, Daniel talked with Jason Kasper about the aspects the author found essential in a knife. Kasper had extensive experience with edged tools. He served in the United States Army for fifteen years, beginning as a Ranger Private and ending as a Green Beret Captain, and is also a Veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. One element he felt critically important for a knife was a finger guard. Daniel considered Kasper’s literary descriptions and stated prerequisites, then created the WK Shadow Strike.
The WK Shadow Strike is designed for in-the-pocket carry, but can also be adapted to horizontal carry.
Black laminate handle scales are set on the full tang for strength and durability. Skeletonizing the tang maintains strength while bringing the weight down to just 5.8 oz. The thumb rise and finger guard stop you from sliding forward, even under stress conditions.
The versatile Boltaron sheath with Ulti-Clip is designed for multiple carry options including pocket carry and horizontal carry. It can be worn right- or left-hand draw with simple adjustments.
Handcrafted by artisans in the USA.
