Description: South African knifemakers André Thorburn and André van Heerden create exceptional folders. When they work together, they create A2 knives. The A14 Flipper features an ergonomic design that fits perfectly in hand. Sweeping hollow grinds in the blade complement the handle well.
The blade is perfectly centered with silky-smooth, drop-shut action -- easily opened with one hand using the ambidextrous flipper toggle. It runs on an IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. Thorburn and van Heerden created this A14 Flipper with ceramic ball bearings. Generally, IKBS bearings are made either from tool steel or from stainless steel. Stainless steel can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds. Extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize.
The blade is stainelss damascus san mai forged by Futuron Forge. It combines a central core of Elmax stainless steel surrounded by stainless damascus cladding. ELMAX provides the extreme edge retention, high strength, and toughness a hard-use knife demands. High wear resistance in a steel usually means low corrosion resistance, but not with ELMAX. With this advanced steel, you get both properties, which makes it an excellent steel for daily carry folders.
Handle scales are premium whitelip mother of pearl set on blue anodized titanium liners. The scales are perfectly fit to Timascus (titanium damascus) bolsters. The Damasteel pivot and pivot collars nicely complement the damascus san mai blade. The titanium liners surround a Timascus backbar. A 3D machined Timascus pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
