Description: Trevor Burger is a second-generation knifemaker following in the steps of his father, Fred Burger. He has an eye for detail. His knives have exceptionally smooth action and clean, no-nonsense designs. This custom Urban XL Flipper is a folder with a streamlined design that will make you really appreciate the details.
The blade runs on Trevor's in-house-made caged ceramic ball bearings and has silky-smooth action. Generally, bearings are made either from tool steel or from stainless steel. Stainless steel can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds. Extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize. The blade is easily opened single-handed using the gent's front flipper. This allows the blade to be flicked out quickly or slowly rotated open with the thumb.
The blade is premium ELMAX stainless steel, created by Bohler in Austria. At 61 Hrc, ELMAX provides the extreme edge retention, high strength, and toughness a hard-use knife demands. High wear-resistance in a steel usually means low corrosion resistance, but not with ELMAX. With this advanced steel, you get both properties, which makes it an excellent steel for daily carry folders. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The handle is bead blasted grade 5 darkened titanium and features a copper Dark Matter FatCarbon inlay on the left side. Trevor's maker mark is engraved on the inside of the backbar. The backbar and pivot ring are copper. Titanium hardware is used throughout. The blackened titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
