Description: Dave Skinner brings a refined eye and tremendous skill at the forge to his knives. This Raised Clip Hunter with Bog Oak is a tremendous knife.
The blade was forged to shape from Skinner's own laddered damascus, combining 1070 and 15n20 carbon steels. The bold pattern is immediately captivating. The blade is flat ground for a high performing edge and features a raised clip.
The contoured handle is stabilized ancient bog oak. This wood has been buried in a bog for hundreds or sometimes thousands of years. The extremely low oxygen conditions of the bog protect the wood from normal decay, while the underlying peat provides acidic conditions where iron salts and other minerals react with tannins in the wood, gradually giving it a distinct dark brown color. The handle is contoured and stippled for a sure, comfortable grip. The guard is hot blued 5160 carbon steel.
This hunter is accompanied by a leather custom sheath, also made by Dave Skinner. Like the knife, it is exceptional and includes ostrich shin leather inlay.
Exquisite work throughout!
