Description: This knife is the work of Donald Weiler of Yuma, Arizona. Don was in the military from 1948 to 1968. His military career commenced with the Merchant Marines followed by enlistment and retirement from the Air Force as a Technical Sergeant. He made his first knife in 1952. He was a member of the Knifemakers Guild and a well-respected knifemaker. Unfortunately, Donald passed away in August, 2008. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances, Donald could have made it yesterday!
The 4-inch blade is mirror polished steel. A deep hollow grind creates a high-performance cutting edge that won't need to be thinned over time. The spine is fileworked for a comfortable thumb purchase. Weiler's touchmark is on the ricasso of the left side of the blade.
The handle is rosewood, secured to the tang using 14 brass pins. The contoured handle provides a comfortable grip. The edge of the tang was removed when the knife was built and replaced with matching brass. This was meticulously fileworked to nicely match the front and rear brass bolsters. This knife will feel right at home in a private collection, though it will beg to be taken out in the field.
To keep the knife close at hand, a tooled pouch style leather sheath made by Weiler is included.
Excellent work throughout!
