Description: Montana bladesmith Erik Fritz creates an exceptional knife. This Forged Chute Knife would feel at home in the best collection, yet you’ll want to take it out in the field and use it. This knife has been in a private collection since it was made. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances, Erik could have made it yesterday. Erik has told me that this exceptional knife was part of his JS test. When a maker tests to become a journeyman, they create five knives that are the height of their work. These five knives are then judged by established masters to determine if the maker's work is up to snuff. Often, prospective journeymen spend 2-3 times as long creating these five knives as they would generally do, as they know that their work will be poured over by the masters. These five knives are generally considered to be among the most collectable knives of a maker's career.
The hand-forged blade is 52100 carbon steel. Many knifemakers and knife users feel that 52100 is among the best steels used to make custom knives. If features a meticulous hand rubbed satin finish. The clip is brought just shy of a sharpened edge and ensures an aggressive tip.
A 416 stainless steel guard complements the presentation grade Arizona desert ironwood handle. Desert ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a rare wood that is only found in the valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation. It is extremely dense and durable. In fact, it is so dense, that if a piece is dropped in water it will sink! The contoured handle swells toward the back resulting in a sure, comfortable grip.
Phil Rosine created a sturdy Kydex belt sheath to keep this knife at the ready when not on display. Another excellent knife from Fritz with his signature classic look and feel!
