Description: Bill Ruple has been making knives since 1988 and serves on the board of directors of the Texas Knifemakers and Collectors Association. Ruple is considered to be a true expert at making slipjoint folders and has taught the craft to many other well-known knifemakers such as Luke Swenson, Bubba Crouch, Rusty Preston, Ian van Reenen, Bill Burke, and more! When looking for a quality slipjoint, a Ruple is top of the list! This Trapper with Goldlip Mother of Pearl was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in near mint condition with some very tiny hairline cracks around the front, reverse pin that is original to when the knife was made (as verified by the original owner).
The Trapper model slipjoint is one of the most well-known knife patterns in modern history and is well over a century old. Its useful design and ergonomic handle has allowed it to continue being relevant even today!
The blade is CPM-154 stainless steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it while remaining tough and chip resistant. The spine and tang are fileworked by hand. Ruple's touchmark is on the ricasso of the left side of the blade.
The blade is perfectly centered and can be opened easily using the left-side nail nick. The action is consistent and smooth with a firm half stop.
Goldlip mother of pearl handle scales are set on fileworked stainless steel liners. The scales are nicely dovetailed to front and rear satin finished bolsters. This knife, at only 2 ounces, is light enough to keep on you and not realize it until its needed.
Excellent work throughout!
