Description: This knife was inspired by the knife used by the Kruger National Park's first game ranger, Harry Wolhuter. Wolhuter used the knife in 1903 to kill a lion that attacked him while on patrol in the park. His memories of this event (along with others) can be read in his iconic autobiography, Memories of a Game Ranger.
This exceptional utility knife is the work of Kentucky bladesmith Joshua Fisher. Joshua is a full time knifemaker and a Forged in Fire champion (season 8, episode 23). He started making knives when he was 22 years old. He liked the idea of being able to take raw materials and make a functional tool that can be used every day. Joshua was honored to work with the Wounded Warrior Project teaching veterans how to make knives, tomahawks, and other tools -- providing a unique experience and outlet for the veterans.
The blade is hand ground Nitro-V stainless steel. Nitro-V is a martensitic stainless steel with a chromium-based composition created by the New Jersey Steel Baron company. Nitrogen and vanadium have been added to the composition of AEB-L to improve edge performance. The resulting blade has an extremely keen, long-lasting edge and is just as tough or tougher than similar carbon steels while being completely stainless.
Carbon fiber handle scales are set on the full tang using torx screws. The contoured handle fills your hand and offers a non-slip grip.
Excellent work throughout!
