Description: This dramatic hunter shows the influence of knives by Mastersmith Ed Fowler, with the recurved, deep bellied blade shape. It was kept in a private collection since it was made. The knife is in new condition and by all appearances, Aaron could have made it yesterday!
The blade was forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel. 52100 is considered by many knifemakers and knife users to be among the best steels (if not the best!) used in modern knifemaking. It combines exceptional edge holding with durability and ease of sharpening. The blade is differentially heat treated, bringing the edge to critical temperature then oil quenching three times. Many thermal cycles and normalizing steps assure consistent grain structure. The blade was then tempered at 400 degrees twice, for exceptional durability. A cryogenic treatment between tempers enhances edge holding ability. A clear differential heat treatment line separates the ultra hard edge from the soft and supportive spine. Aaron's mark is on the left side of the blade. His J.S. mark is on the right side of the blade.
The solid amboyna burl handle is contoured for a very comfortable grip. This unique piece of amboyna burl combines the blonde sapwood toward the front of the handle with the red toned heartwood toward the rear. The combination is immediately captivating. Thin, red fiber and brass spacers alternate at the rear of the guard. These assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The handle is finished with a polished nickel silver guard. The handle feels so natural in the hand, you’ll have a hard time putting it down. A serious field knife for the avid hunter or collector.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand stitched leather custom sheath is included.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
