Description: Minnesota bladesmith Cody Hofsommer has had a passion for knifemaking since he was young. He started learning the art of blacksmithing in 2003 and has hand-forged many knives over the years. His goal is to make a quality piece of art that can also be a practical useful tool. He received his journeyman certification through the American Bladesmith Society in 2018. He competed on History Channel's show, Forged in Fire and was named champion after making a damascus pattern Spanish Conquistador sword (season 7 episode 18, aired January 22, 2020). We met Cody at the 2021 Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia and were immediately blown away by his exceptional quality of work. His custom knives are some of the most refined you will ever encounter. We're keeping a close eye on Cody and expect him to become one of the 'greats'.
The blade is forged to shape from Cody's own ladder pattern damascus forged from 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. The left side of the blade has his makers mark. The right side denotes JS for Journeyman Smith. Because the knife is forged from carbon steels we recommend using camellia oil to oil the blade and wood handle.
The bolster is integral to the blade, with the damascus pattern moving seamlessly from bolster to blade. This technique has superior structural integrity but requires a particularly talented smith.
The dyed and stabilized black ash burl handle is secured using a hand domed pin. The handle is nicely contoured for a secure, comfortable grip. The handle is heirloom fit to the bolster ensuring there will be no sharp spots even if the wood were to shrink over time.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand tooled black leather sheath is included.
Exceptional work throughout!
