Description: This Willem Steenkamp custom Zulu Slip Joint is a fantastic utility folder. The spear point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed and implemented. This design combines the Lanny's Clip handle with a spear point blade.
Willem was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives.
The 2.9 inch spear point blade is hand ground M390 stainless steel hardened to 61Hrc. The blade features a hand rubbed satin finish. M390 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it due to a high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. A hollow ground blade makes for an easy to maintain edge.
The blade is well centered with a firm half stop -- easily opened with the right handed thumb nick.
The gently rounded handle is lightning strike carbon fiber. Wires move through the woven carbon fiber. A mokume gane shield is inlaid into the left side of the handle. The scales meet perfectly with mokume gane bolsters. The handle has been nicely domed and polished to provide a secure grip.
Exceptional work throughout!
