Description: Andrew Smith began making knives in 2008 when he was only 15 years old. He started out forging knives out of railroad spikes and tomahawks out of bar stock and ball peen hammers. For years this was all that he made. Today he makes all kinds of knives, but still has a deep love for making hawks. We were extremely pleased when we first met him at Blade Show 2021 and are excited to offer some of his work.
The head of this axe is hand forged 4140 tool steel with a forged finish. The edge measures approximately 3.75 inches. The head is 8 inches from the cutting edge to the back of the spike. Andrew's maker mark is engraved into the top of the axe.
The haft is hand carved ash wood. Ash is a perfect choice for a hard use axe. The haft is tapered to provide excellent balance for throwing and chopping.
A harness leather custom sheath protects the edge when carried.
Nice work throughout!
