Description: Growing up in a house where everybody had creative hobbies, John has always enjoyed making things with his hands. A part time knifemaker and retired architect, John Arnold finds both joy and satisfaction in designing and constructing well balanced, well proportioned and beautiful knives. The Knifemakers Guild of South Africa recognized John's skill and accepted him as a member in September 2006. John currently is on the membership committee of the KGSA.
Arnold designed this strong, reliable folder for everyday carry, yet it could easily be a cherished knife in any collection. This Midi Simba is a perfect size for everyday carry. The action is silky smooth, thanks to the IKBS ball bearing system. The blade is perfectly centered without the slightest wobble. The IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play. A front flipper assists in the ease of opening. The compact front flipper is easy to use and does not get caught on things while kept in the pocket.
The blade is stainless damascus forged by Damasteel in Sweden. This high performing stainless damascus steel is created using powder metallurgical manufacturing to provide excellent edge retention and unmatched beauty. John heat treated the blade to 60 Hrc to ensure a long lasting cutting edge.
White Storm FatCarbon handle scales meet perfectly with Gibeon meteorite bolsters. The meteorite used for these bolsters is particularly nice and has no inclusions. The Gibeon meteorite landed in Great Namaqualand, Namibia, Africa. It radio carbon dates to over 4 billion years ago. Gibeon fragments are spread over one of the largest strewn fields in the world, measuring 70 miles wide by 230 miles long and have a distinctive pattern known as the Widmanstatten pattern, which is one of the richest and most distinct patterns found in meteorites. The crystalline patterns can only form in the vacuum of space. The large metallic crystals require millions of years of cooling to form from a molten planetary core fragment. It has been estimated that it took about 1000 years for these molten pieces of planetary core to cool by just 1 degree Celsius!
Anodized titanium liners keep the knife strong, yet light. They surround a carbon fiber backspacer. The anodized titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Excellent fit and finish throughout!
