Description: This Loveless style drop point hunter was made by Mastersmith Joe Cordova of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Joe studied knifemaking under legendary knifemakers Bob Loveless and Bill Moran. He sold his first knife in 1953 and served as a chairman for the American Bladesmith Society. Joe is currently retired from knifemaking. This knife has been in a private collection since it was made and is in brand new, unused condition. By all appearances, Cordova could have made it yesterday.
The 5-1/2 inch drop point blade is stainless steel. Cordova suggested it is most likely either ATS-34 or CPM-154. It is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. The spine has been nicely rounded to provide a comfortable thumb purchase. Both the blade and full tang are distal tapered to provide a perfect balance.
The green Micarta handle is secured to the full tang using Loveless style fasteners. The hand contoured handle feels exceptional and fills the hand nicely. Thin copper liners are hand fileworked. The bottom of the tang is engraved with serial number 4185. The handle is finished with a polished stainless steel guard and a lined lanyard hole.
To keep the knife close at hand, the original pouch style leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
