Description: Bill Ruple has been making knives since 1988 and serves on the board of directors of the Texas Knifemakers and Collectors Association. Ruple is considered to be a true expert at making slipjoint folders and has taught the craft to many other well known knifemakers such as Luke Swenson, Bubba Crouch, Rusty Preston, Ian van Reenen, Bill Burke, and more! When looking for a quality slipjoint, a Ruple is top of the list!
Ruple included five blades on this traditional Sowbelly Stockman pattern: a short spey blade (1.9 inch), a long clip point (2.8 inch), a short clip point (2.1 inch), a spearpoint (1.9 inch) and a sheepsfoot (1.9 inch). For centuries, clip point blades have been the main blade in more knives than not. A clip point provides a strong, yet detail-oriented tip and is a perfect choice for a wide variety of tasks. The sheepsfoot blade provides a thin blade that provides a supremely clean cut, especially on flat cutting surfaces. The spey blade was traditionally used for skinning or castrating purposes when used around a farm or ranch. The blades are made from premium CPM-154 stainless steel and feature Ruple's mark on each blade. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it while remaining tough and chip resistant. The blades can be easily opened using the nail nicks. An elongated nick on the primary blade makes it particularly easy to open.
The handle is formed from amber sambar stag scales set on a stainless steel frame using pins. An escutcheon is flawlessly inlaid into the left handle scale. Front and rear bolsters are made from polished 416 stainless steel.
Exceptional work throughout from a true master of slipjoints!
