Description: Swedish knifemaker Greger Forselius has a sense of design rarely found elsewhere. This highly detailed Swedish Puukko hunting knife brings together Gregor's artistic and design sensibilities with flawless results.
The unique blade was forged and ground by renowned Swedish bladesmith Roger Bergh. Regrettably, we don't see as much of Roger's work in the US these days. The blade is a complex pattern forged from carbon steels. By combining 20C and 15N20 carbon steels, Bergh ensures a keen, long lasting edge.
The stacked handle combines a central section of ancient walrus ivory surrouded by Steller's seacow bone and woolly mammoth bone. Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas) is an extinct, large sirenian mammal formerly found near the Asiatic coast of the Bering Sea. It was discovered in the Commander Islands in 1741 by the German naturalist Georg Steller, who was traveling with the explorer Vitus Bering. Through an unfortunate combination of being slow, large, and very good tasting, by 1768, less than 30 years after it had been discovered, Steller's sea cow was extinct. The handle is nicely contoured for a comfortable hand-hold.
The knife is accompanied by a single seamed Swedish leather sheath.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
