Description: We were very excited to meet Jarrett Cieslak at the 2021 Blade Show in Atlanta, GA. Cieslak is an exceptional young bladesmith that is clearly a maker to watch. We anticipate that he will become 'one of the greats'.
At 15 years old, back in 2013, Jarrett began making knives after encountering blacksmithing videos on YouTube. He was immediately hooked. Between 2014 and 2016, he received a machining certificate from Harford Community College and was awarded welding certifications from Earlbeck Welding. This continuing education (along with hours and hours of hammering) gave him an understanding of how he could merge these experiences with his blacksmithing. In 2018, he attended an ABANA conference in Richmond, VA, where he was encouraged to join the American Bladesmith Society. Jarrett takes great pride in his craft, from forging the steel, to fit and finish, to personally hand stitching every sheath. His artistry stems from the love of transforming raw materials into a high performance knife that is sure to be passed down through generations.
The 7-2/3 inch clip point blade was hand forged from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. The highly controlled twisted Ws pattern damascus shows tremendous skill at the forge. The grinds are well performed and perfectly balanced from side to side. Cieslak's makers mark (a stylized beard) is set on the left ricasso.
Handle scales are hand contoured presentation grade, redwood lace burl. It locks your fingers securely between the beak and guard. The scales feature an heirloom fit and surround a twist pattern damascus frame. The scales are set in place with stainless pins. Fitup throughout is exceptional.
This knife shows a tremendous amount of skill, both in implementation and in design. It is a true masterwork and needs to be held to fully appreciate Cieslak's work.
