Description: Ricardo Vilar is one of the makers that brought the Brazilian knife market to the forefront of American collectors' minds. Vilar was one of the primary organizers of the Brazilian cutlery seminar with North American Mastersmith Jerry Fisk, which was held in Ricardo's workshop back in 2001. In 2005, he became the first South American journeyman smith in the American Bladesmith Society. His work is exceptional, with dramatic shapes and detailed damascus. His designs and attention to detail clearly set him apart as a leader. Vilar moved to the US around 2018 and is continuing to be on the forefront of custom knifemakers.
This Clip Point Bowie features a blade hand forged from laddered Ws damascus. The swedge provides a detail-oriented tip and is brought just shy of fully sharpened. The blade is distal tapered for a perfect balance.
The handle is formed from presentation grade mammoth ivory. It features rare black and green tones that developed in the ancient ivory across thousands of years. The tang is enclosed with black G-10. The S-guard, ferrule, and pommel are formed from polished stainless steel.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched, hand tooled leather sheath.
This is an exquisite bowie with exceptional work throughout!
