Description: Mastersmith Shane Taylor is best known for one-of-a-kind art knives, with an emphasis on pictorial mosaic damascus and highly engraved art knives. His unique vision is influenced by steam punk and gothic aethetics. Among his best known designs are the batwing fighter and the batwing folder. This Aether Batwing Fighter is a beautiful example of a batwing fighter fixed blade.
The blade was forged to shape from Shane's own damascus, combining 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. A swedge runs approximately half the length of the blade to reduce weight. Both the blade and tang are distal tapered providing perfect balance in hand. The blade is lightly convex ground and razor sharp. Taylor's mark (ST) is hand engraved on the left ricasso.
The handle is formed from presentation grade African blackwood. It is hand contoured to providie a solid grip. The aether pattern in the bolsters was created by forging the bronze using custom-made dies. Images of skulls floating in the aether are portrayed in detail. Textured, nitre blued slotted screws secure the scales and bolster to the full tang.
Exceptional work throughout!
