Description: This is JD van Deventer's Silver Front Flipper model.
JD van Deventer creates unique knives of the highest degree of craftsmanship and performance. He took up knife making in 2005 and became a member of the Knifemaker’s Guild of Southern Africa by 2007. He works in a one man shop and even builds most of his machines himself! He is clearly a maker to keep an eye on!
The Silver Flipper was designed by Jared Van Otterloo (JVO). This thin, lightweight, mid-size knife is extremely comfortable to held. At just 3.3oz, it disappears in the pocket. The inobtrusive front flipper tab is easy to use and won't get caught on things in the pocket.
The blade is perfectly centered with silky smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous front flipper toggle. It uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
The hand ground drop point blade is 12C27 stainless steel. A thumb rest makes choking up for detail-work easy and comfortable. 12C27 is created by Sandvik in Sweden. This steel takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. It also maintains high toughness, high chip resistance, and good corrosion resistance -- it is a well rounded choice for a high performing cutlery steel. A hand rubbed satin finish adds to the heirloom appearance.
The scales are contoured and fluted carbon fiber. Blue anodized titanium liners surround a carbon fiber back spacer. Terraced titanium pivot collars are blackened and blue anodized around the edges. The black titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Exceptional work throughout!
