Description: This flipper was hand built by South African bladesmith Theuns Prinsloo. Before Prinsloo became a full time knifemaker, he was a headmaster of a school for students with learning disabilities. He committed to making his first knife after his 16 year old son passed away in 1994. He was immediately hooked on knifemaking and by 1996 he had become a full time knifemaker. He is a KGSA guild member. Theuns never makes the same knife twice. Some knives may use the same materials or have a shape that is somewhat similar, but what separates a Theuns Prinsloo knife is in the details.
This folder features a heat blued stainless damascus blade forged by Damasteel in Sweden. The resulting blade combines deep blues and purples in a bold damascus pattern. The blade has been hollow ground for a keen, easy to maintain edge. It can be easily opened using the ambidextrous flipper tab. The blade runs on bearings and has silky-smooth, drop-shut action. It is well centered.
Stabilized giraffe bone handle scales are set on anodized titanium liners. The scales are dovetailed to bronze bolsters for a perfect fit. The left bolster is hand carved in the image of a giraffe. The right bolster is carved and textured to resemble a giraffe’s spotted pelt. The handle is nicely domed for a very comfortable feel in your hand. Anodized and hand fileworked titanium liners surround the anodized and fileworked backbar. Theuns paid tribute to his African national heritage when he created this flipper. Petroglyphs similar to those created by the Namibian Desert Bushmen show hunting scenes and prey. The backdrop is the mountain that is visible from Prinsloo’s backyard. The images are engraved on the interior of the backbar.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
Accompanied by a leather custom belt pouch.
