Description: I was excited when Mastersmith David Lisch introduced me to Mike Clark Jr back in 2018. Since then, his work has continued to show his tremendous attention to detail. Given the level of work, it is no surprise that Mike easily passed his JS Test at the 2019 Blade Show in Atlanta, GA.
The blade on this Southwest Bowie is forged from 80CrV2 carbon steel and features a meticulous hand rubbed satin finish. 80CrV2 provides tremendous strength and resilience while remaining very easy to sharpen. We recommend using camellia oil to avoid rust and oxidation. Mike's maker mark and J.S. mark are both featured on the right side of the blade.
The handle is formed from ringed gidgee wood (Acacia cambagei). Gidgee is an exceptional wood for knife handles and is considered to be one of Australia's most beautiful timbers. It has tremendous stability even when exposed to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. It is among the densest woods in the world and has a beautiful curl similar to Hawaiian koa. The handle is heirloom fit to a wrought iron guard. The sides of the wrought iron are satin finished, revealing just a little bit of the wrought iron's natural texture. The front face of the guard shows the texture inherent to the antique wrought iron. The handle is exceptionally comfortable and well balanced. As is typical of Mike Clark's work, this knife features take-down construction. This technique, which requires exceptional attention to detail, allows the knife to be disassebled if it ever needs repair.
To keep the knife close at hand, Mike included a hand tooled leather sheath.
Excellent work throughout!
