Description: Des Horn is one of the fathers of the South African knife industry. His influence can be clearly seen in other South African's work, but also extends into knives made around the world. Whether put to a daily carry folder or an art knife, his attention to detail and skill is legendary.
The Flipvubu is Des' flipper design Imbuvu -- using a standard flipper tab instead of a front flipper design. The blade is made from Swedish Damasteel which has been double tempered and cryogenically treated in liquid nitrogen. This style of heat treatment treatment results in an incredibly long lasting edge, and high resistance to chipping.
The blade is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth, drop shut action. It is easily opened using the flipper mechanism. The blade rotates on 32 ball bearings made from silicone nitride (HRC93) developed for the Space Program. This ensures the knife retains its smooth opening for many years to come!
M315 stainless steel handle scales are hand carved and meticulously polished and textured. Grade V titanium liners surround are hand fileworked and anodized.
Exceptional work throughout!
