Description: I was tremendously pleased to meet bladesmith Dave Skinner at the 2019 Guild Show of Southern Africa. Dave brings a refined eye and tremendous skill at the forge to his knives. This kukri is a tremendous example of his work.
The 12-1/4 inch blade is hand forged from 5160 carbon steel and features an acid etched finish. 5160 carbon steel has exceptional chip resistance coupled with good wear resistance, making it perfect for chopping tasks around the camp site. A large fuller runs almost the entire length of the blade to reduce weight and add to the blade's good looks. Dave's maker mark is featured on the left ricasso.
The handle is made from curly mabandolo wood secured to the full tang using large corby bolts. This dense, resinous wood has a beautiful mix of warm brown and dark brown striations. The figure is similar to curly koa and ringed gidgee. 418 stainless steel bolsters have been bead blasted to nicely compliment the acid etched blade. The handle is nicely contoured for a secure grip that will remain comfortable across hours of use.
To protect the knife, a tooled cowhide leather sheath is included.
Nice work throughout!
