Description: This Engraved Drop Point Hunter was made by Michigan knifemaker Andy Blackton. Blackton, who called himself "The Great Lakes Knifemaker" passed away in the spring of 2007 at 77 years old. He was a very well respected knifemaker and was a longtime voting member of The Knifemakers Guild. He was also a member of the Florida Knifemaker's Association. He was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War. This knife has been in a private collection and has been meticulously cared for. It was likely made in the late '80s to early '90s. By all apearances, it could have been made yesterday.
The blade was ground by hand from 440C stainless steel. It features a hollow grind and mirror polish. The left ricasso features his maker's mark: "Blackton The Great Lakes Knifemaker" surrounding the outline of the state of Michigan with a knife through it.
Black buffalo horn handle scales are set on the distal tapered full tang. Yellow fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The handle is nicely contoured for a secure, comfortable grip. Nickel silver bolsters were engraved by Knifemaker Guild member Fred Harrington.
Excellent work throughout! Whether cherished in a collection or used out in the field, this is a knfie that will excel!
