Description: This Lockback Trapper by Tobin Hill features a CPM-154 stainless steel blade and beautifully matched stag handle scales. Though Tobin has only been making knives for a bit over 3 years, his work does not reflect the short time he has been at it. Tobin learned to make knives from legendary folder maker Bill Ruple. He is clearly a maker to watch.
The clip point blade is formed from American-made CPM-154 stainless steel and features a hand rubbed satin finish. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it while remaining tough and chip resistant. The blade can be easily opened using the right-handed nail nick. The lockup is solid and leaves no blade play at all.
Stag scales are set on hand fileworked stainless steel liners using hand domed pins. An arrowhead escutcheon is inlaid flawlessly into the left stag handle scale. 416 stainless steel bolsters are fit nicely to the stag scales. A rear lanyard tube with a braided leather lanyard makes the knife easy to pull out from your pocket.
Nice work from an up-and-coming maker!
