Description: As an avid hunter, Randy knows how a good hunting knife should perform. He loves to "field-test" his designs and feels that a quality knife should not only look great, but perform well as a tool. The knife should be extremely comfortable to hold and perform at a level that is extremely hard to find elsewhere. This knife is no exception.
The hollow ground ATS-34 stainless steel blade will maintain a superior edge and will be easy to re-sharpen, due to the hollow grind. Hardened to 59-60 Rc, Randy has ensured that the blade will keep its edge through the most difficult tasks.
The handle is formed from 11 stacked layers. Arizona desert ironwood (Olneya tesota), Steller's seacow bone (Hydrodamalis gigas), and black magic polyester resin move in a balanced pattern into a larger stabilized black ash burl (Fraxinus nigra) section. This five layer stacked pattern is repeated on either side of the large central burl. Steller's sea cow is an extinct, large sirenian mammal formerly found near the Asiatic coast of the Bering Sea. It was discovered in the Commander Islands in 1741 by the German naturalist Georg Steller, who was traveling with the explorer Vitus Bering. Through an unfortunate combination of being slow, large, and very good tasting, by 1768, less than 30 years after it had been discovered, Steller's sea cow was extinct. Thin red fiber spacers surround nickel silver, assisting the handle to adjust to changes in humidity and temperature. This is a beautiful warm-toned handle with dramatic tonal contrast - another stunning knife from Randy Lee.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched brown leather sheath by Sonja Lee.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
