Description: Dave Skinner brings a refined eye and exceptional skill at the forge to his knives.
This utility is a tremendous example of his work. It was inspired by renowned South African knifemaker Fanie La Grange. Fanie's unique aesthetic is nicely reflected in this utility.
The blade was forged to shape from 1070 carbon steel, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. A gently undulating line (called a hamon) travels along the center of the flat ground, polished blade. This technique, borrowed from the world of Japanese swords, requires meticulous care. The spine is coated with insulating clay prior to heat quenching. This ensures a keen, long lasting edge, with a softer, supportive spine.
The contoured handle is black canvas micarta. It is set on the distal tapered full tang with eight stainless steel pins. By tapering both the blade and tang, Skinner ensures that this knife as perfect balance. You won't want to put it down. Satin finished 303 stainless steel bolsters bring weight to the center of the knife.
This utility knife is accompanied by a custom wet formed cowhide sheath.
Exquisite work throughout!
