Description: I was tremendously pleased to meet bladesmith Dave Skinner at the 2019 Guild Show of Southern Africa. Dave brings a refined eye and tremendous skill at the forge to his knives.
This Western Tanto is an elegant knife. The blade was forged to shape from Skinner's own damascus, combining 1070 and 15n20 carbon steels. The blade is flat ground for a high performing edge. The spine is brought just shy of fully sharpened.
The contoured handle is formed from chittum burl (Sideroxylon lanuginosum). The wood has a swirling figure and beautiful reddish tone similar to amboyna burl. Handle scales are set on a distal tapered full tang. By tapering both the blade and tang, Skinner ensures that this knife as perfect balance. You won't want to put it down.
This Western Tanto is accompanied by a custom tooled leather sheath.
Exquisite work throughout!
