Description: Riaan Manser is a full-time knife maker from South Africa. Manser works under the brand name 3LegDog -- named for his pit bull cross dog which lost its hind leg when still a puppy. Manser and his dog spent many days and nights sitting along side each other in the knifemaking studio. Regretfully, his beloved dog passed away during the summer of 2018.
This Model W5 Flipper features a blade formed from premium Bohler ELMAX stainless steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 61. ELMAX provides the extreme edge retention, high strength, and toughness a hard-use knife demands. High wear resistance in a steel usually means low corrosion resistance, but not with ELMAX. With this advanced steel, you get both properties, which makes it an excellent steel for high end folders. The blade features a flat grind. The bevels are bead blasted. The flats are elegantly mirror polished.
The blade runs on ceramic bearings. Stainless steel bearings can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds. Extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize. The blade is perfectly centered, has silky-smooth action, and is easily opened single-handed using the flipper tab. It drops shut with no resistance.
Handle scales are formed from black G-10 and are meticulously inlaid with sections of stabilized maple burl. The scales are set on blue anodized Gr6 titanium liners. They are nicely domed for a perfect grip. The backspacer is formed from black G-10. The handle is completed with an anodized titanium pocket clip.
Exceptional work throughout!
