Description: Mastersmith Bill Burke makes knives that are as high performance as a knife can get. He is best known for his sheep horn hunting knives and chef's knives. This Bird and Trout is quite a rare find from Burke and it feels exceptional in hand. This knife will be perfect for a high performance daily carry and will handle any task out in the field. You likely won't find a higher performing bird and trout than this one!
The blade is forged from 52100 carbon steel. It was pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treatment is a highly detailed (and time consuming!) process that was developed between Mastersmiths Ed Fowler and Bill Burke after years of trial and experimentation. This technique, involving low temperature forging, triple quenching and triple tempering creates some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere. A differential heat treatment results in a blade with a soft, supportive spine and a keen, long lasting edge. Bill's mark is hand engraved on the left side of the blade with his M.S. mark on the right.
The handle combines sheep horn with a brass guard. The guard protects your fingers from moving onto the blade's edge and brings the weight to the center of the knife. When wet, sheep horn does not become slippery -- and it is amazingly durable. This piece of sheep horn is incredibly comfortable using multiple grips in both the right or left hand, making it truly ambidextrous. A spacer is created by taking two black sheep horn end cuts and aligning them outward, producing a very pleasing effect. Black sheep horn is extremely rare. Black fiber spacers help the handle adjust to humidity and temperature changes.
This hunting knife is accompanied by a leather pouch style sheath made by Kenny Rowe.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
