Description: Des Horn makes knives that have an intrinsic harmony. This elegant gent's flipper shows Horn's work at its best.
This large Thiers gent's flipper has handles of gabon ebony (Diospyros crassiflora). This dark toned wood is among the densest woods found anywhere. The combination of stainless damascus, anodized titanium and ebony is striking.
Both the blade and bolsters are formed from stainless damascus forged by Damasteel in Sweden. The high contrast steel is both dramatic and extremely high performing. To get the keenest, longest lasting edge, Des hardens the blade then cryogenically quenches it in liquid nitrogen. Finally, it is double tempered for durability. The indent ball is silicon nitride (Hrc 93!). Anodized and hand fileworked titanium liners are formed from Grade V titanium and surround the stainless damascus back spacer.
The front flipper opener is easy to use -- it is designed for easy single handed opening and closing rather than a modern 'flicking' flipper. The blade is perfectly centered and has smooth action.
The knife is accompanied by a zippered stingray pouch.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
