Description: This folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. It is among his master works to date. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005. His folders combine incredibly smooth action with a high level of fit and finish.
The blade is perfectly centered with silky smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. This special LL-15 was made with ceramic ball bearings. Generally IKBS bearings are made either from tool steel or from stainless steel. Stainless steel can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds. Extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize.
The drop point blade is made from stainless damascus forged by Damasteel in Sweden. This high performing stainless damascus steel is created using powder metallurgical manufacturing to provide excellent edge retention and unmatched beauty. The bold damascus pattern is nicely shown in the high blade grind and nearly hidden in the flats. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The scales are made from Arizona desert ironwood (Olneya tesota). The natural wood's swirling figure nicely reflects patterns in the stainless twisted damascus bolsters. Titanium liners have been hand filed into a vine pattern and anodized a deep bronze. The liners surround a matching stainless ladder pattern damascus backbar. The anodized 3D machined titanium pocket clip with ceramic retention ball is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
