Description: This Kosie Steenkamp custom flipper is a fantastic utility folder -- yet it would feel equally comfortable in most any collection. The drop point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed for the task at hand.
Kosie was inspired by and introduced to knife making by his brother, Willem Steenkamp. He began making knives in 2007 and was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2009. Kosie is a stickler for detail and perfection. These qualities and his obvious passion for this craft comes through in his work.
The drop point blade is made from N690 stainless steel hardened to 59HRC. N690 is created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The blade is perfectly centered with silky smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the ambidextrous flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
Handle scales are formed from antique Westinghouse micarta. The domed scales meet perfectly with heat colored and bead blasted zirconium bolsters. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. It is highly resistant to corrosion and scuffing. Anodized titanium liners are jewel polished on the interior. A flipper tab provides easy, single handed opening. The textured and anodized titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
