Description: Journeyman Smith Shawn Ellis lives in the Ozarks -- an area well known for hunting and fishing. After searching for a knife that would perform well -- holding a keen, long lasting edge -- Sean realized that he had to learn how to forge and create his own knives. Shawn competed in and won the Forged in Fire competition as seen on the History Channel.
Ellis began this hunter by hand forging the blade and tang from W2 carbon steel. A traditional Japanese clay zone heat treatment results in a dramatic heat treatment line called a hamon. This undulating line marks the transition between the soft, supportive spine and the keen, long lasting edge.
The handle is formed from African blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon). This dense, jet black wood has tremendous strength and durability. The tang is tapered, ensuring exceptional balance. The wood is set on the tang using six hand domed sterling silver pins.
Accompanied by a hand sewn leather sheath to keep the knife close at hand.
Excellent work throughout!
