Description: Bob Lay's designs are well thought through and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship. This Canadian Hunter shows his work at its best.
The spalted maple handle has a nice mix of light and dark tones with black spalting lines moving through the figure. A very rare muskox horn spacer adds excellent contrast. Muskox (Ovibos moschatus) is an Arctic mammal of the family Bovidae. Muskoxen primarily live in Arctic North America and Greenland, with small populations in Sweden, Siberia and Norway. The world population is estimated at between 80,000 and 125,000. Muskox is among the rarest handle materials used by knifemakers today. Alternating stainless steel and black fiber spacers allow the handle to adjust to changes in temperature and humidity. The stainless steel guard and butt cap create a perfect balance in the hand.
By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. The blade has been heat treated to 58Rc for optimal edge retention. CPM 154 is a powdered metallurgical stainless steel made by US steel maker, Crucible.
The knife is accompanied by a hand tooled sheath and cordura storage pouch as well as a certificate from the maker.
